I have noticed that a number of French cars now sport a white rear number plate rather than the usual yellow.

I have asked around but have no reply.

Does anyone know the reason for this?

Have come across another interesting web site giving loads of info/advice on France. Try www.frenchentree.com/fe-lavie/
Mentions new vehicle registration plates for this year, although I did not see white plates referred to, but it could well be all tied in together.
