I have received an email from someone with a holiday home here concerned about the small holes which are appearing in her garden. She wonders what causes them, can they cause a problem and how to get rid of them or stop them appearing. I have them in my garden and understood it was either mice or a type of grasshopper and they havn't caused any problems. The lady's worry is that if they are mice will they get into the house when they are not here! With 4 cats I don't have that worry!!

We have the same problem, they are mice! Fortunately one of our dogs is proving to be an excellent mouser!

Our next door neighbour advises pouring drops of petrol down the mouseholes as they can't stand the smell and it drives them away. OK if you're not planning a barbecue, I daresay! Otherwise, I've recently noticed plastic bottles of mouse deterrent in the gardening aisle of the Auchan supermarket at Gueugnon. Hope this helps!
