Help!No notification yet of my taxe d'habitation 2009/02/18 19:42 Karma: 0
Can anyone help? Last Jan 1st - i.e. Jan 1 2008 - I walzed into my local Tresor Publique ready to pay my taxe d'habitation, as I knew it was calculated from the start of the year following the one in which you buy your house. Nothing to do with this office, said the woman, they're sent out in the autumn. A year later I'm still waiting, and am getting worried. I've had, and paid, two taxes foncieres, no problems there - but that originally came via the notaire, as it was split pro rata with the vendor. Does anyone know if the demand will eventually trickle through, or do I have to go and seek out someone to pay? I have no idea how much it will be, of course, but don't want it mounting up. And I read somewher they fine you 10% extra if you pay late! My house is in in Luzy, in the Nievre, but I'm still living in the U.K. I asked some French friends but they're in a different part of France, and couldn't offer any advice anyway.

Kate, Let them catch up with you. It took them 2 years to bill us for our habitation and they did not want the 'unpaid' arrears.
If you have your bills sent to your UK address, just check your habitation is also sent there as a couple of people have had post errors this year in the region. They should be able to check that at your local Tresor Public-if not you can sort that out at your main Hotel des Impots.
